Waco's #6 Attraction - Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum!
A truly unique Waco attraction is the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum! This is an official hall of fame, museum, and archives for the Texas Rangers. The organization is the oldest law enforcement agency in the United States, and serves as a symbol of resilience of the American West.
Founded in 1968 on the banks of the Brazos River, this small museum dedicated to the Texas Rangers opened. This was made possible through efforts of the State of Texas, Texas Department of Public Safety, City of Waco, and Waco Chamber of Commerce.
More than fifty years later, the museum has become a historical center and has welcomed over 4.5 million visitors from all around the world. The mission of the museum is "to collect, preserve, and disseminate knowledge of the Texas Rangers, a legendary symbol of Texas and the American West; to document Texas Rangers past and present.
When you visit this iconic Waco attraction, you'll find that the museum is divided into six galleries which feature different time periods. Their collection has over 20,000 artifacts, photographs, archival items, and books, that are all related to the history of the Texas Rangers and the American West. This museum only contains a small portion of their holdings, as they have an entire online database with even more materials.
In the museum history about American Indian, Hispanic, and Black Texas Rangers are all displayed. Additionally, there is a historic timeline which breaks down the entire history of the organization. Information about this goes all the way back to when the Texas Rangers operated under the Republic of Texas. After the Texas Revolution, Texans were more dependent on the Rangers than ever as they were the only force defending the land of the new republic.
Today, The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum is a governmental nonprofit operated under the City of Waco. The museum is located right off the Brazos River with a really cool view of McLane Stadium on the opposite river bank.
I definitely recommend all Waco tourists to visit this iconic museum which has an amazing collection of history over the Texas Rangers.
