Waco's #7 Attraction - Homestead Heritage!

 One-tank road trips: Homestead Heritage

A great family-friendly place to go visit in Waco is Homestead Heritage! This 550 acre farms is comprised of small family farmsteads with various of animals. These families will raise their own staple crops such as wheat, corn, beans, fruits, vegetables, etc. every year.

The property features a water-wheel-run gristmill which is located in a 250-year-old hand-crafted mill which produces grains. The farm and ranch-raised produce the community does not use is sold at the gristmill or restaurant or is otherwise given away.

The Homestead is especially known for its quality craftsmanship. The Craft Village includes a pottery house, woodworking, and blacksmith shops. These ships are operated by talented craftsmen and are open year-round to the public to observe.

The community's roots go all the way back to 1973, when Blair and Regina Adams, the founders, had a vision to live a more Christian lifestyle by starting a small peace church in Manhattan. They wanted to incorporate their children's learning with the Christian principles they so strongly believed in, so decided to start home education.

The Homestead also hosts an annual sorghum festival and annual Homestead fair at Thanksgiving. This event is attended by almost 20,000 people yearly. Many groups take tours of the property admiring at their unique lifestyle.

They also have three different food/drink options: Cafe Homestead, Waco Waffle, and Heritage Coffee. All three of these restaurants have amazing reviews, as customers cite the freshness of all the food.

When I was younger, my parents would take me to this site so I could have a better understanding of their type of lifestyle. The Homestead prides itself in being an agrarian-and craft-based Christian community. They seek to live in a peaceful coexistence with the land and other people.

This is definitely a unique attraction for any city, which is why I think all tourists should visit Homestead Heritage!
