Waco's #2 Attraction - Cameron Park!

Cameron Park: The Perennial Summertime Stop in Waco

If you are an outdoor type of person and enjoy being adventurous - Cameron Park in Waco, Texas is just for you! This is a 416-acre property which offers so many different recreational activities.

There are humongous trees, two rivers, breathtaking cliffs, and playgrounds throughout the park. It is popular with hikers, bikers, fishermen, disc golfers, and picnickers. Cameron Park is often considered as a national treasure and thousands of visitors come every year to marvel at this magnificent park.

This was created more than 100 years ago when William Cameron's family decided to donate the parkland. In 1917, the Cameron family donated the 60-acre Lover's Leap to the City of Waco. This is a breathtaking cliff that offers just an amazing view.

Cameron Park is one of the largest municipal parks in Texas which features a 23-hole disc golf course, stunning views of the Bosque and Brazos Rivers, and a 20-mile network of trails for walking and hiking.

However, in the 1980s, the park began to begin demise. The park was not being maintained quite well and the scenic beauty was being disturbed by nearby construction efforts. In an effort to change this, former Congressman W.R. Poage donated $100,000 for the development of the wildflower preserve.

This launched a campaign to restore the park to its previous greatness. Today, the park remains a staple for Waco natives and tourists. Every year many athletic events are held here such as the Bearathon.

I highly encourage all to visit Cameron Park, which is just minutes from downtown Waco!
