Waco's #3 Attraction - Cameron Park Zoo!
This will be surprising to most local tourists, but Waco is actually also known for having a phenomenal zoo.
Situated on the Brazos River, the Cameron Park Zoo expands on over 52 acres around downtown Waco, Texas. The zoo is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
This means that the facility must uphold exceptional standards for animal care and management. The animal care staff dedicates a tremendous amount of time to provigin the best of care, including training, proper nutrition, veterinary care, and life enrichment.
There are over 1,700 animals, which represent 300 species. In August 2009, the zoo opened the Asian Forest which feature critical endangered Orangutans, Sumatran tigers, and Komodo Dragons.
In addition to the Asian Forest, other exhibits include Gibbon Lake, South America, Brazos River Country, Herpetarium, Penguin Shores, and African Savanna.
Visiting the zoo on multiple occasions, I can attest to how well put-together the grounds are. Even though it may not be as expansive as bigger city rivals such as the Dallas Zoo, Cameron Park Zoo still offers tremendous opportunities to see so many animals.
I would highly encourage anyone visiting Waco to definitely stop by this must-see attraction as it really is one of Waco's best things to do while visiting!
